Tasmania

Weekend Glamping Adventure

A Jetstar alert popped up on my screen advertising $49 flights to Hobart, looking for any distraction to take me away from an inbox of emails that had gotten out of control, I clicked on in.  In the spirit of which I live when it comes to travel, I found myself saying why not, and before I knew it, I had booked some random weekend in February to spend in Tasmania.

With a little bit of research I had the weekend planned, leaving Melbourne after work on Friday night and picking up a car at Hobart airport after the quick 30-minute flight to our destination.  We started Saturday morning nice and early at the Salamanca Market.  I had heard this was no ordinary market and that was certainly true, there was a real vibe about the place.  There were stalls full of unique handmade jewellery, candles, soaps, old books, handmade baby items, cakes and biscuits and local wines.

The best part though was being immersed in the smell of different food coming from the stalls as you made your way through the aisles.  The local seafood stalls had people lining up for BBQed prawns on a stick, scallops and the most beautiful oysters I have ever tasted served from a little white caravan.

Determined to pack as much as I could in this weekend jaunt, we made our way up the East Coast.  Tasmania’s East Coast is one of the island’s most stunning and diverse regions, renowned for its rugged beauty, pristine beaches, and charming seaside towns.  We stopped at various points along the way to take in the beauty of this region, indulge in more food and explore the beautiful stores offering their own delightful treasures and warm, inviting atmosphere.

Our final destination for the day was Little Beach Co Resort to spend the night glamping in this remote coastal property surrounded by private bushland, granite rock coast and the white sand and crystal waters of Little Beach.  Glamping has become a popular accommodation choice, and it was on my bucket list to experience for myself.  It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere with the only thing in sight the ocean and beige coloured bell tents scattered along the coast. The tents themselves were simple but elegantly decorated, there was an immediate feeling of peace and tranquillity with the only sound being the ocean in the distance. There was no choice but to relax and take in this little piece of heaven on earth.

Before dinner we indulged in platter of local cheeses, dips and bottle of red wine as the sun started to set and we reflected on the some of the beautiful sight we had seen.  We had organized with the staff before they left for the day a BBQ pack we cooked ourselves before retiring to our tent falling asleep to the serene and faint sound of waves crashing on rocks.

After breakfast it was time to make our way back to Hobart for our early evening flight back home.  This was one of the most beautiful places to experience glamping, it offered the perfect balance between immersing yourself in nature and enjoying the comforts of a luxurious stay.   It was a unique and unforgettable experience that blended beauty and adventure.   The drive back provided more stunning sights and numerous stops that left me in awe of this country I call home.

This cheap little weekend getaway to Tassie turned out to be much more than I expected.  It felt like we saw so much in such a short amount of time, but the best part was being in a car stopping at our leisure with nowhere in particular to be, and a Sense of Adventure is all that was required.
