Simply Stunning Scenery

Anyone who has looked at travelling to Sri Lanka would be familiar with photos of traveller’s leaning out from a bright blue train and looking onto the vibrant green tea plantations. That is the famous train ride from Kandy to Ella and is a must do on every Sri Lankan itinerary.

The train ride to Ella is described as one of the prettiest train journeys in the world – and for good reason. Our carriage was a mix of tourists and a group of locals who entertained us playing their drums and singing in their native tongue for at least the first hour of the trip.

This stunning train journey winds through the hill country and tea fields right through the heart of Sri Lanka. Time went quickly as you take in the pure beauty of this country. You witness waterfalls, tea plantations, local people and spectacular rolling green hills.

The highlight is going to the open doors at the end of the carriage and hanging out the side with the best view. Everyone is eager to do this at the start of the trip but be patient, a few hours into the trip people retreat to their seats and you can enjoy this prime position all to yourself……
