Heaven on Earth

It has been a dream of mine to indulge in the obscene price it costs to stay in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives, just once! Instagram photos of villas on stilts perched above insanely blue water on a distant tropical island left me longing for the day it would be my turn to experience pure opulence.
From the moment you walk out the airport and board your transfer you are greeted with turquoise blue water that makes you instantly feel like you have landed in paradise. When we reached the island and walked into our room it felt like I had entered the pages of a luxury travel magazine, it felt surreal.
OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi is a laidback four-star all-inclusive resort. Each overwater villa has the shape of a traditional Maldivian dhoni and consists of a bedroom, a semi open-air bathroom, and an outside deck with direct access to the lagoon.
It is ultimate island paradise with crystal blue water, soft white sandy beaches, and some of the best coral reefs left on the planet. It was worth every cent and is absolute heaven on earth.
We tacked these five days on the end of a ten-day tour of Sri Lanka and was a cheap ninety-minute flight and great way to end a hectic tour. To read more about my trip to the Maldives read my travel inspiration story called Maldives is it all its cracked up to be. Given the close proximity of Maldives to Sri Lanka it is an economical way to see both in one trip. If Sri Lanka is on your travel radar read my travel inspiration story called, Wildlife Rich Jungles, Rolling Tea Plantations & Mist-Shrouded Mountains.
