3 Day Comedy Cruise – Laughter Love and Memories

Every Christmas, I feel the same excitement, I love the joy of giving. But as the years go by, I’ve found it harder and harder to know what to buy for everyone in the family. A few years ago, we decided to introduce a new tradition. While we give less of the gifts that might be forgotten in a few months, and give something that lasts far longer: time together. Now, each year, we give a shared adventure. And honestly, there is no greater gift than creating memories that we’ll carry with us forever.

One of my most treasured adventures was a three-day comedy cruise from Melbourne. It didn’t matter that the ship didn’t sail to any far-off destination, the magic happened on board, where every generation found joy in their own way.

I’ll never forget the look on the grandkids’ faces as we first arrived at the port. Their eyes grew wide as they craned their necks up to take in the towering ship. The moment we stepped onto the deck, laughter filled the air. We stood at the back of the ship and watched Melbourne slowly disappear, waving goodbye as the ocean stretched endlessly before us. It felt like the start of something special.

Our first full day was spent mostly around the pool. The kids splashed happily while the rest of us stretched out in deck chairs, telling stories, sharing old memories, and laughing. Back home, conversations are often rushed, squeezed in between errands, phone calls, and chores. But out there at sea, time slowed down. There were no distractions, no responsibilities, no rushing from one thing to the next. Just us, being fully present with each other.

As we explored, it became clear the ship really did have something for everyone. The kids loved the amusement gallery, their laughter echoing through the flashing lights of arcade games. Some of us adults may have also had a bit to much fun as well. The men of the family, gravitated toward the casino one afternoon. I found them huddled around a blackjack table, cheering each other on with the kind of playful competitiveness. And whenever anyone’s stomach rumbled, no matter the hour, there was food waiting. From buffets to snacks to late-night treats, it felt like the ship anticipated every craving before we even had it.

The evenings brought their own kind of joy. We dressed up together for the themed nights, and it was like being transported back in time. Gatsby Night was my favorite, seeing the family dressed in feathers, hats, and suspenders was pure magic. After comedy shows that had us in stitches, we’d end the night gathered around a table in one of the many bars, winding down with conversation that lingered long after the glasses were empty.

If your family is considering a trip that spans generations, I can’t recommend a cruise enough. Everything is taken care of, meals, activities, entertainment, so you’re free to focus on what really matters: being together. On that ship, surrounded by nothing but ocean and laughter, I realized the greatest gift we can give each other isn’t something bought in a store. It’s the gift of presence, connection, and memories that will warm our hearts for years to come.
